Meet Loren Richmond Jr.

Hey, I'm Loren Richmond Jr. and I love connecting with people who are passionate about building and growing churches to make an impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

Church is in my blood. My dad is a pastor, and even though I’ve carved a different path for myself, my faith and belief that the church can be an agent for good (God) in this world has not wavered—nor has my calling and commitment to work with and for churches!

I grew up independent Baptist, graduating from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO with a Bachelor of Science in Youth Ministry and Bible. Then through a journey of faith, I found my way to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and completed a Master of Divinity at Phillips Seminary in Tulsa, OK.

I have served churches and church-related non-profits in a variety of capacities, including volunteer positions, internships, and part-time roles. Fresh out of Bible college, I served as a youth director at a church in Maryland, helping more students get involved with church while deepening their faith.

My first role as a lead pastor was at an old, denominational church seeking to revitalize and reconnect with their community as it changed around them. In a little over three years during my time there, the church saw an increase in giving, a 50% rise in membership, and countless new connections with the community.

For the last three years, I have been working as the lead and planting pastor of Missiongathering Christian Church in Thornton, CO, a progressive, inclusive, Christian Church committed to full LGBT+ inclusion. In this time, I have helped build a church from the ground up while navigating the greatest social and economic disruption of our lifetime, the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am passionate about new church and church revitalization. Along with having worked in these, I have deepened my investment into these fields by starting a Master of Business Administration at Hope International University with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management.

Ministry in the 21st century is complicated! I believe church leaders will need a broad skill set akin to an entrepreneur to understand the market, recognize trends, and position churches to ensure viability and sustainability in their communities.

Another great way I get to look toward the future is through the Future Christian Podcast, of which I am the host. At the Future Christian Podcast, I talk to pastors, authors, and other faith leaders for helpful advice and practical wisdom to help leaders and churches walk boldly into the future. I love talking with pastors and faith leaders for insights and ideas into what it means to live as a follower of Jesus in the twenty-first century.

Most of all, I believe the church needs good leaders (not influencers, personalities, or authoritarians) who are willing to lead boldly, act with conviction, and make mistakes along the way. We cannot be afraid of failure—nor can we be afraid of being decisive and making important decisions. I believe that in becoming the best person and leader I can be, I can best serve the church and grow more leaders to lead in my place.

If you too are passionate about church and seeking to make an impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities through your church or faith community—we need to talk!

Married with two young children, in my spare time (which is rare!), I like to exercise, read, and spend time with my wife and kids. Oh, and in lieu of monetary donations, feel free to send gummy bears or Diet Pepsi as a love offering!
